Why change and loss hurt
Grief and stress are normal responses to losing something that mattered — not weakness.
Loss is not only about bereavement. Retiring, moving house, a health change, or a role you no longer hold can all bring a real sense of grief. Something that mattered to you has changed, and it is normal to feel it.
These feelings can show up as sadness, irritability, tiredness, trouble sleeping, or a foggy, unsettled feeling. They are not a sign you are coping badly; they are the mind and body responding to a significant shift.
There is no fixed timetable. Some days will feel lighter and others heavier, and that unevenness is common. Naming what you have lost — even quietly to yourself — can make the feelings easier to carry.
